13 bali/shopping

okay, so shopping in bali, i was expecting a lot more markets etc, which i did find in ubud, but seminyak is a completely different story. it is full of cute little boutiques and home wares spaces, all beautifully designed and styled. i made a deal that i would only purchase what i knew was a bargain or that i couldn't get it in sydney. first purch was this neon pink snake clutch to wear to a friends wedding in byron, it is a lot brighter and more neon-y in person and was only $28 (bargain category)

if only i had a shipping container, how easy it would be to fill it!

these carved skulls were all through ubud and seminyak, unfortunately i thought i couldn't get them through customs so i didn't purchase, i asked customs man on the way out and he said it would have been fine...kill me now

i found a shop that i am IN LOVE with want to go live there just to shop it everyday. it was kelly wearstler meets the natural history museum which is me down to a tee. i found a gorgeous box that i am going to use to keep all the wedding memory stuff in (below)

i also got this weird feathery door hangery thing for like, $7 and this silver lotus pod container which i will use to store jewellry (at the wedding i had lotus pods in my table arrangements which i couldn't bring back through to australia so this is a little reminder)

i also went into another shop that was decked out beautifully (herringbone floors, great cabinets, white walls, moldings etc) and filled to the brim with fakes, surprisingly one of only a handful i came across. this one had every imaginable item that had been on an 'it' last in the past 2 years. i tried to convince Julian he needed the black studded faux louboutins but no dice. i left that shop empty handed, don't worry, although there was some tempting celine minimalism...

mcqueen clutch anyone?

i came home from bali with about 3 or 4 things that i really love and i am so pleased that i didn't let shopping get in the way of the whole point of the homeymoon...relaxing!

  3. Awesome! Those are some great finds and great shops! Too bad about the skull though! I was in a similar situation in Africa. There were these huge ankole cattle horns that I wanted but wasn't sure about customs. As it was essentially just cow and they were crazy cheap (like seriously they would sell here in the US for like $600 and I got them dirt cheap!), I went ahead and tried it and got them through! Although it was a little discouraging to me...the horns were all wrapped up and, while the customs people would ask what it was (it was clearly horns of some type), no one checked. I could have been smuggling illegal rhino horn right under their noses! Made me sad that it would be so easy to smuggle endangered species parts.
